| Spend six days immersed in China’s two most dynamic cities. Beijing is widely considered the cultural heart of the country and contains many of its historic and cultural treasures, while Shanghai is the flashy modern powerhouse with the hip restaurants and gleaming skyscrapers. During your three-night stay in Beijing, your guide will take you to the main sights of the city and surrounding area, including the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, the Temple of Heaven, the Lama Temple, the Summer Palace and, of course, the Great Wall. Also explore the cobblestone lanes (hutongs) and ancient courtyard houses around Beihai Park, one of Beijing’s most picturesque areas. From Beijing, fly to Shanghai, the center of China’s economic boom and an extremely cosmopolitan city, for another three-night stay. Here, take a private tour of the Bund, admire the charming architecture in the French Concession, and attend a performance of the Shanghai Acrobatic Troupe. One full day will be spent on an excursion to the small water towns of Luzhi and Suzhou; each has delightful gardens, bridges, canals, and traditional homes. | |||
