| This itinerary juxtaposes the vibrant energy of India’s booming cities with the rural charm of its smaller villages and the rustic wildlife attractions of Bandhavgarh National Park. Begin with two nights in Delhi to become acquainted with the city and then fly to Varanasi where you will visit Sarnath, the site of Buddha’s first teachings. While in Varanasi, enjoy a sunrise boat ride along the Ganges River and explore the temple of Vishwanath and the Old City. From Varanasi, head to Bandhavgarh National Park to go tiger-tracking at Mahua Kothi, India’s first luxury safari lodge. From Bandhavgarh, head to Agra to see the magnificent Taj Mahal. In addition to the Taj, you will be introduced to some of Agra’s lesser known but equally compelling attractions. Transfer by road to Alwar for a taste of the quieter life of India’s villages and then head to Jaipur, the famed “Pink City” of India, where you will ride an elephant to Amber Fort and tour the city’s many museums and palaces. Fly to Udaipur and visit the City Palace and the Jagdish Temple, take an evening boat ride on Lake Pichola, and see the Jain temples in Ranakhpur. Conclude in Mumbai with a day of city touring and a catamaran tour to see the intriguing cave temples at Elephanta Island. | |||
