ARTISTIC TRADITIONS OF JAPAN   14 days
Tokyo, Kamakura, Hakone, Kyoto, Himeji, Kurashiki, Okayama, Naoshima Island

This deluxe tour offers travelers an opportunity to see the most famous monuments as well as a number of lesser-known but equally magnificent treasures. Start in Tokyo, where a full day of sightseeing includes the Imperial Palace Plaza, Asakusa Kannon Temple, and Rikugien Garden. Also enjoy a day excursion to Nikko, the renowned Buddhist-Shinto religious center, to see both the natural and manmade attractions. From Tokyo, a private driver will take you to Kamakura to see the famous 44-foot bronze Buddha image. In Hakone, visit the Fifth Station of Mount Fuji and the Hakone Open-Air Museum while staying at the most elegant of Japan’s traditional inns, the Gora Kadan. From Hakone, take the bullet train to Kyoto, widely considered the cultural and artistic center of Japan. In Kyoto, enjoy a full day of private sightseeing, which includes the Kinkakuji Golden Pavilion, Ryoanji rock garden, and Daigoji temple, among other stops. On your second full day in Kyoto, a full day outing to the Miho Museum and the Saihoji Temple makes for a wonderful day in the country. Travel next to Himeji for a brief stop before continuing on to Okayama for a single night. An afternoon of touring will introduce you to the area’s charms, including Korakuen gardens and Okayama Castle. The trip concludes with two nights at Benesse Art Site Naoshima, a truly unique artistic and cultural haven.
