This program provides an excellent overview of Madagascar’s most popular attractions as well as some of the lesser-known highlights. Start with a night in the capital city of Tana (as the locals call Antananarivo). From Tana, fly to Fort Dauphin and then drive to the Berenty Reserve (about 3 hours), where the riverside location provides a unique and sheltered environment for ring-tailed lemurs, sifakas, and more. Wide forest trails make the reserve easy to explore and bird watching here is excellent. Depart to Fort Dauphin and fly to Tana, where you will drive towards Perinet Reserve, one of Madagascar’s most renowned national parks, a realm of forested mountains inhabited by nine species of lemurs and a dizzying variety of birds and reptiles. Spend a single night in Tana and then fly to Diego Suarez, continuing by road to Amber Mountain National Park, a lush forested region that is home to seven species of lemurs as well as reptiles, amphibians, and birds. Included here is a visit to Red Tsingy, delicate sandstone structures that create beautiful forms. After fully exploring Amber Mountain, transfer to Ankify and return to Tana to catch your departure flight. |
