| Journey to Borneo, a region whose very name evokes images of thick jungle rainforest and bright flowering plants. This tour begins with a drive to Batang Ai, a beautiful region where you can spend two nights with the Iban people and learn about their culture and lifestyle. From Batang Ai, head back to Kuching for the night and some independent city touring. Next depart for one of the most unique cave complexes in the world, the Mulu Caves, where you can see fascinating stone formations. Afterwards, head to Kota Kinabalu for one night at the Shangri La Tanjung Aru Resort. The next day visit Kota Kinabalu National Park, where privately guided touring introduces you to the indigenous flora and fauna. The next day features a daytrip to Gaya Island, where undisturbed rainforest thrives in primordial splendor. Fly to Sandakan, a town that was the capital when Sabah was British North Borneo. The first night in eastern Sabah will be at Turtle Island, where mother sea turtles waddle onto land to nest. While you wait for the turtle's approach, park rangers teach about conservation and the life cycle of this endangered animal. The next day, depart by boat and watch the feeding of the orangutans at the Sepilok Sanctuary before proceeding overland to Sukau, where an afternoon cruise on the Kinabatangan River awaits. The next morning, visit Ox Bow Lake before returning overland to Sandakan for the final night in Borneo. | |||
