This trip proceeds at a slightly more leisurely pace and also includes two nights in Urubamba, a small town in the Sacred Valley that is located close to some important Incan ruins. Start the tour in Lima, where you will spend two nights at the Miraflores Park Hotel and have a full day to explore this bustling South American city. From Lima, fly to Cusco and spend a day seeing sights like Sacsayhuaman Fortress, La Merced Convent, and the famous cathedral. From Cusco, drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with stops along the way so you can visit a weaving cooperative to learn about textile arts; the small town of Pisac to see the weekly market; and Ollantaytambo, one of the oldest continuously occupied settlements in the Americas. The following day will be spent seeing the circular terraces of Moray and the town of Maras, once an important trading town because of its nearby salt mines. Continue on from Urubamba to Machu Picchu for two days of exploring the “ Lost City of the Incas,” a breathtaking monument with a magical quality. The trip concludes with one last night back in Cusco, an opportunity to revisit favorite spots or simply enjoy some of the fine food and hospitality on offer in this charming city. |
