| Lima, Cusco, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu | |||
|
With two more days than the Introduction to Peru trip, this journey allows visitors to take a little more time to see the important highlights of the country. Start in busy Lima with a full day tour of the city before flying to Cusco. An afternoon tour will introduce you to this charming town and another full day will take you to the Sacred Valley –- specifically Ollantaytambo, one of the oldest continuously-inhabited settlements in the Americas; the famous market of Pisac; and a weaving cooperative dedicated to preserving the traditions and skills of weaving artisans. From Cusco, head to Machu Picchu for two nights exploring the ruins from a base at the well-located Sanctuary Lodge. No matter how many images of Machu Picchu you may have seen, the actual ruins of the dramatic “ Lost City” hidden high up in the mountains will exceed your expectations. From Machu Picchu, return by train to Cusco, where you will have a full day at leisure to continue your explorations independently. Cusco is easy to navigate on foot and there are plenty of opportunities for dining, shopping, and sightseeing, so a day at leisure there is a true pleasure. After two nights in Cusco, return to Lima to catch your international departure flight. |
