| This introductory program provides a compact overview of Sri Lanka's charms and can easily be arranged as an extension of a trip to India. Start in Kandalama, your base for exploring the second capital city of Sri Lanka, Polonnaruwa, and the ruins at Sigiriya, including the famous "Lion Rock," frescoes, and water gardens. The next day, enjoy an elephant ride and a visit to Minneriya National Park, a gem that is home to wild elephants and many beautiful birds. Proceed overland to Kandy, the relaxed "capital" of the hill country, with a visit to the Dambulla rock temple and a spice garden en route. Upon arrival in Kandy, enjoy an introductory city tour featuring Kandy Lake, the downtown bazaar, and the Temple of the Tooth. This active day concludes with a cultural show featuring traditional Sri Lankan dancing.
