| Syria, Lebanon & Jordan: Damascus, Palmyra, Aleppo, Baalbeck, Beirut, Byblos, Sidon, Tyre, Jerash, Amman, Madaba, Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi Rum | |||
| Explore three of the countries known as the Levant -- Syria, Lebanon and Jordan -- in a single journey that lasts just slightly longer than two weeks. Seen all at one time, these countries collectively offer fascinating insight into ancient history, through the ruins of the stone cities from empires long gone. Start the adventure in Syria, where you will see the important sites in Damascus, explore the ruins of Palmyra, and learn about the region’s Byzantine past in Aleppo. Drive across the mountains into Lebanon – stopping to see the ruins of Baalbeck along the way – and explore the capital city, Beirut, before stepping back in time with day excursions to Byblos, Sidon and Tyre. Finally, fly to Jordan, where you can float on the salty Dead Sea, walk along the ancient cobblestone streets of Jerash, see the undulating desert landscapes of Wadi Rum, and explore Petra, the magnificent ruins that are probably the most famous in the Near East. | |||
